It’s 3:30am and I am wide awake. This isn’t as bad as it sounds, though: I actually got plenty of sleep for once despite my history of chronic insomnia. My 13-month old daughter, who had finally been consistently sleeping in her crib, has reverted back to only wanting to sleep in the big bed with Mom and Dad which means I was tucked in with her at 8pm last night. Now, I have already started my day while she and my husband slumber peacefully in the next room, but it’s actually fine with me. Miraculously, I managed to fall asleep within an hour of climbing into bed last night. Until sleep claimed me though, I passed the time surfing the web on my new smart phone (I’ll admit it – I took advantage of Black Friday phone deals) and fantasizing about redecorating my bedroom. Hey, if I’m going to be trapped in bed at 8pm, I might as well multitask. Here are some of my new bedroom décor inspirations:
If my bed were closer to the ground, I’d feel okay about letting my daughter sleep in it unsupervised. But I have a hard time finding low-to-the-ground beds that don’t just look like a cheap mattress on the floor that’s more suited to a college student than a bed for adults. This bed is whimsical, quirky, stylish and family-friendly. It has everything I’m looking for! Only one problem: this conceptual design by O*GE Creative Group is not technically on the market yet. I guess I will be scouring the internet until I find something else that so effectively tickles my fancy.
There’s nothing worse than having a lapful of sleepy kid and trying to transition her to bed only to have a full-strength bedside lamp shock her awake. In my quest to find lowlight lamps that still met my style qualifications, I discovered this Bowl of Fire Himalayan Salt Lamp. It gives off a warm light that is enough to see by without being overwhelmingly bright for tired tots, plus the salt has natural healing properties meaning it’s good for us in addition to being functional and attractive.
Natural Reclaimed Wood Night Stand
I love supporting independent craftspeople, and Etsy is a great place to find them. My latest obsession is this gorgeous wooden nightstand made from reclaimed barnwood. It’s sleek, stylish, sexy, and sustainable. Plus, it will look stunning with the reclaimed barnwood picture frames I bought when redecorating after a house fire.
I like to keep my room looking stylish, but at the end of the day, it’s not just my room: I share it with my husband and daughter. So I am always looking for memorable pieces that will appeal not just to my sensibilities, but to theirs as well. My daughter will adore this brightly-colored throw pillow crafted from an upcycled corduroy jacket, and I’ll feel good that it’s eco-conscious thanks to its responsibly-sourced materials. As for my husband? Well, he never met a pillow he couldn’t nap on, so he’ll lbe happy no matter what it looks like.
